Backing Fabric Info

We require your quilt backing fabric to be squared and 10" larger than your quilt both in width and in length. For example, if you have a top that is 72" x 89", we require the backing to be 82" x 99". This is to be sure we have ample fabric for our quilting machine for quilting.

There are certain fabrics we cannot accept for this pricing. These fabrics include batiks (backs only) minky, fleece, upholstery, garment fabrics, or bed sheets. We reserve the right to turn down backing fabric that might cause issues with our equipment. As long as it is a quilter's grade cotton, we shouldn't have any issues.

How To Order

On the ordering page, you will be entering the size of your quilt. There is a calculator at the bottom of the page you can use if you want to figure your final cost. You will also be choosing your pattern you would like quilted on your quilt. There is a $35 deposit due on all orders.

Once you place the order, you will receive a confirmation email. On that email you will be given instructions on where to send your quilt top. We are now operating in our home studio in Southport, NC but would rather not publicly post our address.

The Process

When we get your top we will examine it to make sure that all seams are secure. We cannot be responsible for holes in the seaming but will try and catch any imperfections before we begin. If your quilt is extremely wrinkled, we will have to add a $10 ironing fee.

Please make sure your top lays flat. No one is a perfect piecer, we understand this. We will do everything possible to make sure your top lays flat before starting, but sometimes we miss puckers in the piecing which may result in small tucks in the quilting. We also cannot be responsible for small tucks due to wavy borders. We will do everything possible to make sure your top lays flat before starting, but please keep these things in mind before sending your top. We reserve the right to turn down tops that are just too difficult to work with.

Density

Density is how much quilting you would like in your quilt. We start off with a medium density. Not to stiff, but not too fluffy. This is a subjective term so it's really hard to please everyone. Most patterns look good at around 6" - 12" depending on the detail in them. We don't use large patterns just to get the quilt done faster, we use a density that we think will make your quilt look like a quality item when it is finished. As you can see from the small sample images above, we think we get this right. If you would like the pattern to run smaller than our normal size, we have an option to do so at .02/sq.in.

Supplies We Use

Like I've mentioned on our homepage, we use a .005 monofilament thread for our top thread. We have been using this same thread for 22+ years in our t-shirt quilts and have never had any customers ever complain. I have personal quilts that I use everyday with this thread and do not have any issues with it. If you're a cotton "purist" (and I totally get this) you might want to find another service.

Our bobbins consist of Fil-Tec glide poly bobbins to blend with the back of your backing fabric.

We also use Hobbs 80/20 (80% cotton, 20% poly) batting on all quilt tops. The same batting we've always used on our t-shirt quilts for years and years.

How To Figure Price

To figure our pricing, you will need to measure your quilt both in length and width. Then multiply the measurements to come up with your square inch. Our charge is .015 per square inch, so you would multiply .015 x your square inches. On our ordering page, we have a calculator on the bottom of the page.

Extra Fees

We don't anticipate charging you any extra fees, but there are a few items we will charge for if needed.

  • Pressing $10
  • Repairing seams $20/hr. with prior notification

How the Quilt Will Be Sent Back

We trim quilts leaving approximately 1" around the perimeter. Let us know if you would rather us not trim.

Once completed you will be emailed your final invoice. Your quilt is weighed at this time and package weight is added to your invoice. Depending on what part of the country you are sending this from shipping costs range from $12 - $25 in most cases. We ship all packages back UPS using discounted pricing.

Our Equipment

We use A1 quilting machines equipped with Intelliquilter Computerize quilting systems to give us accurate results with every pass.

Pattern Selections

We have a variety of patterns available for free. If you do not see what you're looking for, feel free send me a link to a digitial pattern file you would like on your quilt. You will be charged 50% of the pattern price on your final invoice if it is a pattern that meets our density requirements.
